Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture, is proud of its nationally famous candy, Black Thunder. For the first time, you can tour the factory to see how Black Thunder is made. Q: What is the most famous candy that originated in Toyohashi? (Toyohashi resident) ▼Teenager: "Black Thunder is number one. If I see it, I eat it. I really like it." ▼Twenty-something: "When you think of Toyohashi, you think of Black Thunder." ▼Sixties: "Black Thunder. It's famous." ▼Seventies: "If I were to bring back a souvenir, it would be Black Thunder." Each one costs about 40 yen! Black Thunder is a chocolate candy known nationwide for its catchphrase, "Lightning-fast deliciousness!" It's made at Yuraku Confectionery's Toyohashi Dream Factory in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture! With the completion of their new factory, Black Thunder's first-ever factory tour is now available! (Reporter Natsumi Awakura) "When you enter the facility, you'll be greeted by a giant Black Thunder." At the entrance, there's a giant Black Thunder monument! It's over 300 times larger than the real thing. And... (Reporter Awakura) "You can watch the production process through a window in the corridor. Black Thunders are being cut one after another." A facility that meets customer demands; some products are only available here. Black Thunder, born in 1994, is a chocolate-coated confectionery made from cocoa cookies and plain biscuits. You can get a close-up look at how their signature crunchy texture is created. (Reporter Awakura) "Through this window, you can see how the chocolate is coated." Approximately 10 tons of chocolate are used daily. Approximately 700,000 Black Thunders are produced here. (Yuraku Confectionery President Tatsunobu Kawai) "We've received many requests for factory tours, so we built this facility to meet those requests and to help people fall in love with Black Thunder even more." While the viewing corridor requires advance reservations, there are also shops you can enter without a reservation. You can also find Black Thunders exclusive to each region, from Hokkaido to Okinawa, and a Black Thunder Sukajan jacket (¥21,000) that you can only buy here! Try the "All-You-Can-Eat" challenge! How many can you get? And then there's the popular "All-You-Can-Eat Black Thunder." The space is now larger than ever. (Awakura) "I'd like to try the all-you-can-eat Black Thunder challenge." ¥1,100 per challenge. The time limit is three minutes. (Awakura) "This might actually be a challenge..." It's okay if the candy spills out of the bag. If you can fit 26 or more candy in, you'll break even... (Awakura) "You packed quite a lot, didn't you?" (Staff member) "It looks like you've got quite a lot in there." So how many Black Thunders did you manage to get? (Awakura) "My record was... 34 candy." Toyohashi's ambassador... The cost of building a new factory is over 10 billion yen! For Yuraku Confectionery, this is truly a "lightning-level" project.
