Democratic Japan Is Actually Overpowered

Today I decided to take Japan down a very different path in HOI4, no empire, no fascism, just full democracy. The plan was simple: flip Japan, rebuild the nation, and see if a democratic route could actually stand up to the major powers. Things escalated quickly. After stabilizing the country, I pushed into China, united East Asia under one banner, and eventually formed the East Asian Federation. With full cores on everything, Japan turned into an absolute monster of a nation and easily became one of the strongest powers on the map. This was one of the most fun Japan runs I’ve done in a long time, so enjoy the chaos of democratic expansion, big wars, and a ridiculous amount of industrial power.
