A jury of whose peers?...really | David Morales | TEDxYakimaSalon

To better understand jury selection and the role that communities and academics can play in increasing the diversity of jury participation, David Morales has proposed a statistically based method of geocentric randomized sampling to increase the fairness in jury selection. Along with this technical fix, substantiating the value of this solution, David describes how this will require engagement of the larger judicial community. David Morales is legal aid attorney in Yakima focusing on farmworker clients. He practices primarily employment rights and civil rights law, is involved in various organizations dedicated to the betterment of the Yakima valley, and teaches for La Casa Hogar, a non-profit that aims to serve the Latino Community through education, health and civic programs. David graduated from Columbia Law School in 2012 and the University of California, Berkeley in 2008. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
