Cunard Queen Mary 2 Cruise 2011 Part 17 Storm Force 11 & Fire. Sail out of the Gulf of St Lawrence into the Atlantic Ocean. The weather deteriorates during the day reaching Storm Force 11 on the Beaufort scale, 64–72 mph winds and 37–52 ft waves. Morning in the Commodore Club watching the weather, then retreat to our cabin in the afternoon as the weather worsens. A frightening but amazing sight. Crew alert during the Senor Officers' party due to a fire in the gas turbine up on deck 12 behind the funnel. Passengers are told to return to their cabins. We walk through the empty Britannia Restaurant passing the abandoned meals and the crew in their life jackets going to their muster stations. Fire is eventually put out and we go back to the party followed by dinner.
