After the tumultuous Battle of Sekigahara (1600), he became a ronin and gained undefeated fame in over 60 duels, creating the impressive two-sword style, Niten Ichi-ryū. In his later years, he secluded himself in the Reigandō cave, where he wrote the fascinating Book of Five Rings.
