The resistance a capacitor presents to AC voltage is called capacitive reactance. In a series RL circuit, the resistive current and the resistive voltage are in phase. In a series RL circuit, the voltage across the inductor leads the inductor current. That is, the voltage lags the current. In a series RC circuit, the resistive current and the resistive voltage are in phase. In a series RC circuit, the voltage across the capacitor lags the capacitor current. That is, the voltage lags the current. AC current is a current whose direction and magnitude change with time. DC current is a current whose direction and magnitude do not change with time.
