When Spider-Mania took over Pop Culture. The Cultural Impact of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man (2002)
Welcome to the first episode of my "Pop Culture Impact Analysis" series. In this video, I'm taking a look at the movie that defined my childhood. 2002s Spider-Man. What is there to say about this film that hasn't already been said? In terms of the movie itself, nothing really. On the other hand, there's a lot to say about its cultural significance. My goal here is to try and highlight just how big of a deal this film was in its day, and how influential it was. Further, I think its important to consider just how helpful it was after the events of September 11th, 2001. It blows my mind that school aged children like me experienced 9/11, and then watched this movie that same summer. It was a much needed breath of fresh air that year. I've seen this notion brought up in a number of articles and discussion threads, but I still think it deserves more recognition. Aside from that, I tried to cover Spider-Man's pop culture contributions as thoroughly as possible. The marketing, merchandise, No Way Home (2021), its box office numbers, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and of course the Raimi Memes. I hope you leave this video with a clear notion of this films importance in pop culture history. In addition, I put a of time into making a "Pop Culture Impact Rating System". I've always loved ranking and rating things, so I figured why not include a rating system in these videos. If you're interested, I made a more detailed infographic that you can view here: https://imgur.com/kj9ybVw And now for those pesky tags: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Willem Dafoe, J.K. Simmons, Green Goblin, Tom Holland, Spider-Man 2 (2004), Spider-Man 3 (2007), X-Men (2000), Sony Pictures Thank you for watching.
