With daytime temperatures reaching 108 degrees, many people experiencing homelessness disappear during the hottest hours of the day. I decided to return after dark with backpacks, hygiene supplies, socks, water, dog food and hot meals to see who I could find and help. What started as a simple night of outreach quickly became an unforgettable journey through parts of Las Vegas most tourists never see. I met people sleeping outside, living near bike trails and doing everything they could to survive another night. I handed out burgers, essential supplies and water while listening to the stories of people who are often ignored or forgotten. One woman shared how she had been attacked, robbed and left with serious injuries. She and her friend were caring for a small dog named Fluffy, whose paws needed protection from the dangerously hot Las Vegas pavement. I promised to return with dog shoes, but finding them again would not be easy. The next day, I met Lucia and her son David, who had been living in their van for years. David explained that he had never received a proper education and could not read or write, making it extremely difficult for him to apply for a job. Despite everything he has faced, he wants to work, support himself and take care of his mother. We shared pizza together at a park and talked about his life, his goals and the kind of support that could help him move forward. David does not want someone to do everything for him. He wants someone patient enough to help him learn, complete job applications and finally get the opportunity to work. This video is about more than giving away food or supplies.
