Introduction to the Lesson Study This week’s lesson takes an in-depth look at how the Christian church has struggled from its very beginning with the subtle but constant influence of the surrounding culture. Having strongly appealed against internal divisions in the first chapters, the apostle Paul now addresses extremely serious issues related to sexual immorality, civil lawsuits in pagan courts, and the true sanctity of the human body. Through these straightforward instructions, we will discover that sectarianism opens the door to sinful behavior. This will teach us the biblical way to deal with sin within the faith community in order to protect our identity. Conclusion “Unless corrected by the Holy Spirit of God, our natural tendencies contain within themselves the seeds of moral death” (Ellen G. White, Manuscript 12, 1888). When we choose to empty ourselves completely of pride and the perverted appetites that weaken our physical and spiritual functions, the void is filled by the presence of Christ. By caring for our bodies as holy temples, we allow the Spirit to transform our daily experience and lift us to His pure and heavenly level.
