30 Jahre Klimakrise - eine persönliche Chronologie von Reinhard Steurer
On May 16, 2026, Reinhard Steurer was a guest speaker in the student-organized course "Climate Communication." In his presentation, he took stock of over 30 years of climate change, which has led us from what was then a seemingly distant and harmless climate crisis, through the climate crisis, to the climate catastrophe we now face. Besides physical and political facts, he focused primarily on personal assessments and coping mechanisms. How does one manage to deal with a gradually escalating threat for 30 years without becoming depressed or losing their mind? Let's just say this much in advance: humor is when you laugh anyway… About Reinhard Steurer: Reinhard has been working for many years on the political dimension of the climate crisis in general, and specifically on the political significance of excuses and so-called "pseudo-climate protection." He has authored more than 70 articles, book chapters, and books, given over 100 presentations, and taught even more courses at four universities. Reinhard reports on current developments in climate policy on Bluesky and, as a Scientist for Future, supports climate movements like "Fridays for Future" for reasons he explains here: https://www.derstandard.at/story/2000... About the course: The climate crisis affects us all – but how do we talk about it? Communication is key to change, but often a challenge. The lecture series is organized by students Luca Kräuter and Sigrid Karl with the support of Prof. Herbert Formayer and is entering its third semester after the great success of the last two.
