Kolkata, July 22: Kolkata witnessed three separate political rallies on Ekushe July (July 21) as different parties observed Martyrs' Day in memory of the 13 Youth Congress workers killed in the 1993 police firing. The Trinamool Congress held its annual rally near Birla Planetarium, where former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee paid tribute to the martyrs and addressed party workers. The West Bengal Congress also organised a separate rally. Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury paid homage to the martyrs and criticised both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP during his speech. A third rally was organised by the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel Trinamool faction at Mayo Road, with several leaders and family members of the 1993 martyrs in attendance.
