NANCY GUTHRIE: Additional scanner traffic and second ransom letter

In this episode, we’re taking a closer look at additional scanner traffic from the early hours of the investigation. There appears to be a difference between the initial radio traffic and what was later said about the case. In the scanner audio, dispatch mentions that Nancy had limited mobility, that suggests that, at least during the initial response, authorities were operating under the belief that she may have left the area on her own. Later, we’ve heard that Nancy was not classified as a walkaway. So the scanner traffic seems to paint a different picture of how the situation was initially being viewed. Whether that changed as new information came in, or whether there was confusion during the early dispatch, I can’t say. But it’s an interesting discrepancy that raises questions about how the incident was being understood during those first critical moments. Based on the scanner traffic, we also get the impression that responding deputies and officials may have been receiving conflicting or evolving information from people at the scene.
