Citroën DS: The Car That Arrived From the Future in 1955
Paris, October 1955: while most family cars still wore tall chrome grilles and pre-war engineering, Citroën pulled the cover off the DS — low, smooth, and shaped like it had slipped out of a wind tunnel by mistake. But the body was only the first shock. Underneath sat self-leveling hydropneumatic suspension, power-assisted steering, inboard disc brakes, and front-wheel drive — all in one production car. No wonder the French instantly nicknamed it "la Déesse" (the goddess), and Citroën took thousands of orders on the very first day of the show. In this video we explore why the DS was nearly two decades ahead of its time — and the price that progress demanded from both drivers and mechanics. 👉 Tell me in the comments: is the DS the most futuristic production car ever built? #CitroenDS #CarHistory #ClassicCars
