It's been a while since the last video dedicated to the History of Watches, and there couldn't be a better occasion to talk about the Moonwatch than the purchase of the new 2021 version with Omega caliber 3861. The history of the Speedmaster began many years ago, 64 to be precise, when in 1957 Omega introduced the first Speedmaster with Omega caliber 321 based on the Lemania 27CHRO C12. Eight years passed before, in 1965, NASA chose it—among many others—for the lunar missions as official equipment for the Apollo fleet, starting in 1969. And it was on Apollo XIII that the Speedmaster—which in the meantime had become "Professional"—distinguished itself by saving the crew's lives. The Speedmaster was then equipped with the new Omega caliber 861, also certified, which was succeeded by the 1861—essentially a rhodium-plated 861 with an extra ruby. Yet, following the release of the brand-new Speedmaster Professional with co-axial caliber 3861, Omega has introduced a new caseback engraving that could completely shift the interest of collectors around the world.
