On August 2, we went to the city of Mstislavl for the Knights' Fest. I shot the video as a keepsake, so I didn't comment much. The city was founded in 1135 by the Smolensk prince Rostislav Mstislavich and named after his father Mstislav the Great. The first mention in the Ipatiev Chronicle was in 1156, when it was owned by David Rostislavich Ancient Mstislavl consisted of the Mstislav citadel, fortified with a moat and ramparts, and a surrounding town. In 1180-1197, the city was the center of the appanage Mstislavl principality under the rule of Mstislav Romanovich. The territory of the principality included the lands of today's Mstislavsky, Cherikov and Chausy districts with the cities of Radoml and Ryasno. After the death of the Smolensk prince David, Mstislav Romanovich's uncle, he was recognized as the prince of Smolensk and annexed the Mstislav principality to Smolensk. At the beginning of the 13th century, the city was an important center of the Smolensk principality. The Knights' Festival in Mstislavl, known as the "Knights' Fest", is a traditional event that attracts lovers of medieval culture. The festival usually takes place on the first weekend of August on Zamkova Gora, where the museum complex is located. The festival includes various events such as equestrian tournaments, armor exhibitions, historical performances and battle reenactments. Mstislavl, where the festival is held, is an ancient city famous for its archaeological sites and historical landmarks.
