This old archtop guitar is, for many years, in my good friend and bandmate Andrei Peretianu's family. The guitar was his "uncle's in law" who was a jazz guitarist many years ago. I knew the guitar since I was in high school. But it was never playable. As said in the intro, Andrei has decided to revive this beauty and even take it up on stage and in the studio. The guitar is OLD (50s, 60s), the wood is nicely aged. But it has tons of problems, the guitar was dropped and cracked, it was sprayed with automotive laquer, repaired by non-professionals, and so on. Making it stage-ready means transforming it into a premium, high end instrument, which will also involve some rebuilding and lots of work. So, I took the challenge and figured that it will make an awesome video series for you guys and gals. Also, Andrei and I bought some nice expensive parts and materials to work with. So it's gonna be FUN :) This video is Part 2 of the series, in which I restore the finish of the guitar to a high gloss, now, that the body is properly repaired. Sand the CA glue flush and get rid of all the loose finish flakes. Retouch the yellow/brown burst with aniline dyes. Fill the pores of the wood and hairline remaining cracks with saw dust and shellac. Prepare more shellac (1 pound cut, 2 pound cut and a black pigment mix) Airbrush the black burst with the shellac and black pigment mix Clear coat the body with shellac and polish it to a mirror finish.
