►Hot hatches put a lot of pressure on their front differentials, and the Mk8 Golf R is no exception, despite its fancy AWD system. Differentials use gear oil for lubrication, and after around 30,000 miles of hard driving, they're about ready for replacement. Replacing the front differential fluid isn't much more involved than changing engine oil, so it's another great DIY job for the driveway. Like engine oil, worn differential oil has reduced lubricating properties, causing increased wear on the moving components. Replacing it on time ensures that all these parts remain strong enough to handle the power of the EA888.
