Gospel Reading – Matthew 13:1-23 A sower went out to sow. This is the Holy Gospel according to Matthew: One day Jesus left the house and sat by the lake. A large crowd gathered and gathered around him. So he got into a boat and sat down, while the crowd stood on the shore. Jesus taught them many things by means of parables. He said, “A sower went out to sow. As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. Some fell on rocky ground where it did not have much soil, and it sprang up immediately because it had no root. But when the sun rose, the plants withered and withered because they had no root. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew and choked them. And other seeds fell on good soil and produced fruit: some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold. Whoever has ears to hear, let him listen!” Then His disciples came and asked Him, “Why do You teach them in parables?” Jesus answered, "You have been given the gift of knowing the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others have not. For whoever has, it will be given to him until he has an abundance; but whoever does not have, whatever he has will also be taken away. That is why I teach them with parables, because even if they see, they do not know, and even if they hear, they do not perceive and do not understand. So with them the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled, which says: You will hear and hear again, but will not understand; you will look and look again, but will not respond. For the heart of this people has grown thick, its ears are hard to hear, and its eyes are closed; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their hearts, then turn and I will heal them. But happy are you because you see, and happy are your ears because you hear. For truly I say to you, many prophets and righteous people desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and desired to hear what you hear, but did not hear it. Therefore, listen to the meaning of the parable of the sower. Each person whoever hears the word about the Kingdom of Heaven, but does not understand, will be visited by the evil one, who will rob him of what was sown in his heart. That's the seed that fell by the wayside. The seed sown on rocky ground is the person who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. But it does not take root and lasts only a short time. When oppression or persecution comes because of this word, that person immediately falls away. Those who are sown among thorns are those who hear the word, then the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word so that it bears no fruit. The one who is sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, and because of it he bears fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.” Such is the Word of God.
