📺 Marine Lives: Episode 4 of 6 (2001)

In this fourth episode of the Marine Lives TV series, we explore the lives of the semi-professional players who balance their football careers with full-time jobs. We meet defender Mark Schofield, a policeman who works in the town centre. He explains how his superintendent allows him to put work in while also playing football. Mark enjoys his job and likes to show a community presence by visiting schools and shops. We also meet Marine's stand-in captain, Keith Proctor, an accountant who is finding it difficult to balance his family and football commitments. He is a lifelong Christian and even manages to incorporate football into his sermons. Due to the increasing difficulty of balancing his commitments, Keith has decided to retire at the end of the season. The episode also covers a significant moment for the club, as the committee signs the contracts for a £200,000 ground redevelopment. This project, funded by a Football Trust grant and years of fundraising, is the biggest change to Rossett Park in over 70 years. The club's committee members, including Maurice Broderick and Peter Hughes, are working hard to secure new sponsors. On the pitch, Marine's opponents are Chorley, a team also battling relegation. The team secures a one-nil victory with a goal from Adriano Rigoglioso. Despite the win, the news of Keith's retirement is a sad point for many. The episode concludes with the victory, but tinged with the sadness of Keith's departure. His wife, Jill, notes that he is finishing his career while still playing well, which is a good thing.
