Railfanning Amtrak, BNSF, Cascades, and Sounder Trains in Seattle!

In late March of 2023, I was fortunate to travel to Seattle, Washington with the Iowa Pep Band to attend the Women's Basketball Sweet Sixteen. This involved spending five days in Seattle, from the 22nd to the 27th. This meant there was a lot of free time to explore the city, and for myself and my friend Patrick, much of that time was spent trackside. Our hotel was in the heart of downtown, so it was easy to get around the city by walking or public transit. This video showcases four different railroad operations found in Seattle. The first is BNSF, who's Scenic and Seattle subdivisions run under the city through the Great Northern tunnel, which hosts dozens of trains per day. Second is Amtrak, with the long distance Empire Builder and Coast Starlight terminating at King Street Station. Next is the Amtrak Cascades service, running regional trains between Vancouver, BC, Seattle, and Eugene, OR. Finally is Sounder, which operates commuter trains between Tacoma, Seattle, and Everett. All of these operations made for a unique and varied time trackside. We visited four locations across the city; South Portal/King Street Station, Alaskan Way, Carkeek Park, and the stadium area. Highlights seen in this video include a triclops SD60M leader, the Cascades Talgo trainsets, and the famous Boeing 737 trains.
