Raby Castle Gardens - World's Best Gardens by Ian Wilson Landscape Designer
Raby Castle Gardens are a five-acre walled garden, and they are part of the much larger Raby Castle grounds which encompass approximately 200 acres. The Walled Gardens and the surrounding grounds nearby have recently gone through a major renovation. In 2019 Landscape designer, Luciano Giubbilei started work on the Raby Castle Garden and was responsible for the design and helping modernise the existing gardens sympathetically bringing modern and historic together. The castle has a long history, but the formal gardens didn't begin until the mid-1700s when the gardens were originally designed by Thomas Wright, a famous astronomer, mathematician, architect and landscape designer. The existing bones of the garden including walls, yew hedges, and the ornamental pond are still present, along with some notable plants. The gardens have become a popular visitor attraction and are well worth a visit.
