Iarnrod Eirann: A Day Out At Limerick Jct
I'm looking back through my archives for unposted content. This footage is from a 2005 visit to Ireland. I spent the better part of a day at Limerick Jct. which involved many hours of waiting and brief spurts of activity. This was really the beginning of the end of the "orange era" of Irish Rail, with the new CAF push pull sets and DMUs arriving in a green scheme while the Mark II and many of the Mark III coaches were replaced. Diminishing freight traffic would lead to the disappearance of the small GM classes leaving only the 071s to soldier on in freight work repainted into a dull gray scheme. A surprise appearance of a steam working along with liner, cement and Guinness keg workings added a bit of variety. Enjoy!
