Pred sto leti je italijanska vojska sprožila 10. in 11. ofenzivo na soški fronti, svoji zadnji v tem krvavem spopadu prve svetovne vojne. Oktobra 1917 je sledil 'čudež pri Kobaridu', prva ofenziva avstro-ogrske strani, s katero se je ta doslej največji spopad na gorskem območju v zgodovini človeštva in največji na slovenskem ozemlju tudi končal. The largest conflict on Slovenian soil was a war of attrition that ended with a catastrophic defeat of the Italian forces known as the Battle of Caporetto in late 1917, two and a half years after the theatre of war opened.
