Untouched Abandoned Boarding School that was Built in 1874!

This was a seriously cool location. Please check out the history of the site below. Some pretty interesting stuff... HISTORY - Built between 1874-76 as a private residence for the first part of its life. In 1928 it was bought by a Duchess to be used as a weekend retreat... some weekend retreat... its massive! The duchess was a keen aviator who had a hanger built on the site, and used the field as an airfield for a time. However in 1937 three months before the death of Amelia Earhart she went missing on a fairly routine flight. It is believed that she crashed in the north sea, however her body nor the plane were ever recovered. Some part of a plane washed up but it could not be confirmed that this was her plane. Two years later the site was turned into a school and the former hanger that the duchess had built was turned into the school's gymnasium. In 1947 the site was turned into an all girls boarding school and remained so for the next 9 years. After that the site was bought once again and turned into a mixed gender boarding school for children with special needs aged 7-16. The site remained like this until 2004 when it closed and sat empty and abandoned for the next 6 years. It was acquired in 2010 with the hopes of opening another boarding school on the site but had significant problems with push-back from local residents, educational governing bodies and ofsted. It was pledged more then £17 Million by the department of education for the site to be built on and redeveloped keeping the main house intact, but after all the issues the funding was withdrawn. Even though the school had opened already. So only 3 and a half years into its life, the school was closed once again in 2017 and left abandoned once more... ................................................................. ★ Featured Channels: N/A ★ Additional Links: N/A ★ Sponsored Video: This is NOT a sponsored video. .................................................................
