Uncomfortable journalism for difficult times. http://bit.ly/3VylhmD Today on HECD, with Marina Lobo, the program is titled “Nothing is Funny,” and Spain certainly tries, because we have ElXokas turning the conquest of America into an Age of Empires tutorial and then defending the barbarity by attacking historians for having pronouns in their bios; we have half the television channels narrating Ferraz, the UCO, Zapatero, safes, jewels, and even delivery drivers as if every Glovo delivery could carry the ultimate Watergate; and we have, at the same time, the PP and Vox parties giving lessons in institutional cleanliness while behind the scenes, Kitchen, Púnica, rigged contracts, Quirón, FP, hate speech complaints, former star signings headed for the dock, and that wonderful art of the Spanish right, which consists of shouting “corruption” while pointing with one hand and covering up their own mess with a giant flag with the other. Because no, nothing is funny, but everything is profoundly revealing: when colonialism is discussed, some replace history with culture war; when the topic is Ferraz (the PSOE headquarters), some replace information with spectacle; and when the right wing is discussed, some replace scandals with advertising campaigns. So today we're here to look precisely where we're told not to look, with humor, a touch of malice, and a very simple question: what if the real problem isn't that everything is laughable, but that almost no one is shocked by anything anymore?
