The Majapahit Information Center (PIM), better known as the Trowulan Museum, is an archaeological museum located in Trowulan, Mojokerto, East Java, Indonesia. The museum was built to house various artifacts and archaeological finds found around Trowulan. It is one of the most important historical sites in Indonesia related to the history of the Majapahit kingdom. Most of the museum's collection dates from the Majapahit era, but its collections also cover various historical eras in East Java, such as the Kahuripan, Kediri, and Singhasari kingdoms. The museum is located on the western edge of the Segaran pond. The Trowulan Museum boasts the most comprehensive collection of relics from the Majapahit era in Indonesia. The history of the Trowulan Museum is closely tied to the history of the Trowulan archaeological site. The ruins of the ancient city at Trowulan were discovered in the 19th century. Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, governor-general of Java between 1811 and 1816, reported the existence of temple ruins spread over an area several miles wide. At that time, the area was covered by dense teak forests, making it impossible to conduct a more detailed survey. The urgent need to prevent looting and theft of artifacts from the Trowulan site was the primary reason for the construction of a simple storage facility that eventually evolved into the Trowulan Museum. The museum was founded by Henri Maclaine Pont, a Dutch architect and archaeologist, and thanks to the role of the Regent of Mojokerto, Kanjeng Adipati Ario Kromodjojo Adinegoro. The new museum officially opened in 1987. Covering an area of ​​57,625 square meters, it houses the collections of the old Trowulan Museum as well as various stone statues previously housed at the Mojokerto Museum. The construction of a new museum has been proposed for this area, and the site has been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status. Today, the museum not only houses and exhibits archaeological remains from the Majapahit period, but also displays various archaeological finds discovered throughout East Java, from the era of King Airlangga and Kediri to the Singhasari and Majapahit eras. Among the museum's collections is a famous statue of King Airlangga, depicted as the god Vishnu riding Garuda from Belahan Temple. A winged statue is believed to be the embodiment of the legendary Blambangan king, Menak Jinggo. "The cultural heritage preserved here falls into three categories: those from the Kediri Kingdom, the Singosari Kingdom, and the largest number from the Majapahit Kingdom. These are predominantly made from various materials such as stone, clay, metal, ceramics, and wood," he explained. Visitors are mostly school and university students. Different admission fees apply for children and the general public. The cultural heritage preserved in the museum is not limited to those discovered by archaeologists. The public can also bring items into the museum, meeting government-set eligibility standards.
