Mamdani's Netanyahu arrest comments draw backlash as legal questions mount

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is renewing his vow to explore whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be arrested if he visits New York for the United Nations General Assembly this fall, touching off sharp criticism from Israeli officials, Republicans and some fellow Democrats. Netanyahu has long been a familiar presence at the annual gathering of world leaders at U.N. headquarters in Manhattan, home to both the United Nations and the world's largest Jewish population outside of Israel.
