This GW-5000U-1ER, introduced for Europe in 2021, replaces the 2009 GW-5000-1JF JDM. Same packaging as the GW-M5610U, i.e., different from the JDM version of the GW-5000. The "U" suffix stands for "Updated." The new 3495 module (GWM5610U and GW5000U) compared to the previous 3159 (GWM5610 and GW5000) offers the following: Dual LED illumination instead of electroluminescence. Configurable afterglow light (1.5 seconds or 3 seconds); previously, it always turned off after 1.5 seconds. Configurable date format (DD/M or M/DD); previously, it was always M/DD. Configurable day of the week language (Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, and Russian); previously, it was always English. Configurable timer duration in seconds; previously, it was only possible in minutes and hours. Quick return to the menu by pressing the MODE button for 1 second. Toggle between local time and alternate time zones by pressing ADJUST and SET at the same time. Time visible in chronograph mode and on the timer. World time in 31 time zones; previously, there were 29, with the addition of Fernando de Noronha (-2) and Kathmandu (+5.75). Externally, the watch is identical, and only the disappearance of the "EL BACK" legend, which is now simply "LIGHT," indicates the new model.
