The company has 35 locations domestically and one in Vietnam. The company's headquarters, which embodies the AQ Group's strengths, is an eight-story, all-wood building, with all major structural components such as walls, pillars, and floors constructed from wood. It is said that building such an eight-story building purely out of wood would cost 1.5 to 2 times more than building it out of reinforced concrete. However, the AQ Group has succeeded in reducing costs by 10 to 30%. The secret lies in the unique wall pattern known as a "kumiko lattice shear wall." The company's founder and current chairman was born into a family of carpenters and aspired to be a carpenter from a young age. He left home at 15 to train as a live-in apprentice, and went independent at 19. Since then, he has been committed to building custom wooden homes at a reasonable price, eliminating waste. However, during the period of rapid economic growth, reinforced concrete buildings were increasing in number in cities, but amid this, he rediscovered the characteristics and benefits of wood, which is easy to process and can be used to increase strength and reduce costs depending on the processing method. In the 2000s, the company began developing not only residential buildings but also mid- to large-scale wooden buildings, such as office buildings. This included incorporating pure wood construction into its branch offices, which also served as a demonstration project. The AQ Group has a testing facility for testing the constructability and strength of wooden buildings, conducting collapse tests and aging degradation tests. The know-how cultivated through these demonstration experiments will enable the future realization of highly durable, highly adaptable homes with high asset value.
