The Psalter is part of the Old Testament and is important in Judaism and Christianity. The Psalms are poetic works expressing prayers, worship, praise, sincere feelings, and reflections on God. A kathisma is one of the parts of the Psalter, which is divided into 20 kathismas. Each kathisma consists of several psalms, usually from 3 to 10. Kathismas were used for the daily reading and singing of psalms in church services, especially in the Orthodox and Catholic traditions. The first kathisma includes Psalms 1-8 and is widely used in prayer practice and worship. David was an Israelite king and prophet mentioned in the Bible.
