Swuum's Moon and Back, The Farther Lands Walk [Part 1]

Swuum's Moon and Back is the first terrestrial farther lands journey documented. To accomplish this, I will be walking on the nether roof. This is a Farther Lands, Nether Intermediate journey. The Farther Lands are an extension to the original Farlands bug occuring in beta Minecraft pre b1.8 versions. Instead of the integer limit for the noise terrain generation breaking down at 12,550,821 blocks, the Farther Lands are differentiated by the selector noise also failing. The chaotic Farlands texture becomes smooth and straight with little to no change afterwards. This particular bug occurs at 1,004,065,811 blocks, 80x further away from spawn than the Farlands. Minecraft considers 1 block = 1 meter, thus we can say our destination is just over 1 billion meters away. Our moon on average is about 384,000 km from Earth, thus the Farther Lands are about 2.5x further than the moon is. In other words, this same distance could take you to the 'Moon and Back' (and a little more). Assuming constant non-stop walking speed, this would take roughly 7.5 years to accomplish, however we can cut that down to just under 1 year by utilizing the nether's 1:8 ratio to reduce this to just 10x further. In the end, I aim to travel ~125 million blocks terrestrially to the #239th skylight where I can emerge just 1.5 million blocks from the beginning of the Farther Lands. Skylights are holes in the nether roof created in beta 1.7.3. In beta Minecraft, you cannot build on the nether roof unlike modern Minecraft. This means you can go up, but you can only come back down where you went up. Due to a bug in the code however, the spawn chunk will duplicate every 524,288 blocks, therefore by breaking the roof in this specific chunk, it will repeat every half million blocks or so. These are known to the community as 'skylights'. Within Minecraft there is a hard-coded limit at 32 million blocks where the player will cease to collide with any blocks, causing the player to fall through the world into the void. To fix this, I will be utilizing the Farlander Optimized Mod (FOM). FOM is a collection of mods developed by the Council of Farlanders (CoFL) to allow for varying Journey types and fixing associated bugs with those versions. (Notably moving the world boundary to 2.1 Billion). This mod can be found in the CoFL discord here:   / discord   Along the way we will also stop at a few major milestones, namely the overworld and nether Farlands. Because of this, the journey will be made up of 7 distinct sections: Prep Roof walk to skylight #3 Overworld walk to the edge Farlands Roof walk to skylight #12, see nether edge Farlands Roof walk to skylight #239 Overworld walk to Farther Lands start This video will only contain the prep and a portion of the first roof walk.
