The U.S. Naval War College is pleased to host the eighteenth lecture in this academic year's "Issues in National Security" lecture series. From Professor Brightman: For more than 100 years, the United States has sought to help those in need around the globe. From natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricanes to complex emergencies borne through military conflict, foreign humanitarian assistance (FHA) is a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy. This session will discuss how the U.S. Armed Forces are integrated into broader, whole of U.S. Government opportunities to support nations in need. Discussion will also emphasize the essential roles that nongovernmental and intergovernmental organizations play in disaster response, as well as the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in supporting vulnerable people.
