Sinergia | Madiun – The steps of hundreds of residents of Kuwu Village, Balerejo District, Madiun Regency, accompanying the relocation of an ancient stone on Thursday (July 3, 2026) were more than just a traditional procession. Behind the procession lay the community's efforts to preserve historical traces so they wouldn't be lost amidst the rapid industrial development. The stone being paraded is known as Batu Jambangan, an ancient relic in the form of a water container or basin made of andesite believed to date from the era of ancient kingdoms in Java. In the past, this type of stone was used as a holy water container (tirta) for religious rituals and purification.
