Mehdi François Carcela-González (born 1 July 1989) is a Moroccan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Portuguese club Benfica and the Morocco national team. He began his career in his hometown club Standard Liège, where he played over 100 matches in before and after a stint with Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia, for which he was paid €5.7 million. In 2015, he signed with Benfica. Carcela-González represented Belgium at all youth levels and played twice for its senior team before changing his allegiance to his ancestral Morocco in 2010, going on to represent Morocco at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
