Today I'm starting a brand new series on my rooftop garden. The "ruined" Eight Immortals cactus pot, previously made from an old helmet placed on top of a broken pot, has been repurposed. I decided to uproot the plant and replant it in an old plastic pot that I used for cactus propagation. The soil in the pot was still quite wet, so I removed the top layer of stones and mixed in some burnt rice husks to increase aeration and help the soil dry faster. After replanting, I didn't water it but placed the pot in a cool corner with early morning sun to help the plant stabilize. The ruined pot wasn't thrown away. I planted a sprig of spider plant in it and lightly watered it. The other sprig was moved to the empty corner of the peony pot. One plant finishes its journey, another begins. That's what I love most about caring for plants.
