http://sportsfootankle.com/ In this video, Dr. Clanton demonstrates how to tape bunions after bunion surgery. Patients typically return to the office 7-14 days after surgery. The bandage that is put on in the operating room is the cleanest bandage that you can have. In the first post-operative visit, the original bandage is removed. Once that is completed, the foot is wrapped again to ensure that the big toe stays properly aligned. You start at the back of the foot, just in front of the ankle, wrapping over the top and under the ankle. Then you go around the big toe, and all the way around it. Once that is complete, you have control of the big toe. You can pull the big toe out so that it is straight inline with the medial boarder of the foot. Once you have finished the gauze wrap, you can put a piece of tape on to hold the gauze. Then you can apply a layer of tape. To remove the wrapping, take some scissors and cut a small piece to the outside of the wrapping.
