HISTÓRIA DE MATUPÁ-MT

Matupá is a Brazilian municipality located 700 kilometers from the capital Cuiabá, in the northern region of the state of Mato Grosso. Matupá is a privileged city, strategically located at the intersection of two important Brazilian highways, BR-163 and MT-322, formerly BR-080. It is geographically situated at the gateway to the Amazon, which has a pleasant climate throughout the year and contains all the natural resources in its favor. The municipality emerged during the gold rush era, but its history began to be shaped by agriculture, with grain production becoming one of the main bases of the municipality's economy. Matupá was once considered the rice capital and today stands out in the state as a regional livestock center. Matupá was created from the entrepreneurial vision of the shareholders of the Cachimbo Agricultural Colonization Company, who proposed a noble use for the area exceeding the cattle ranching project, contributing, on the one hand, to the occupation of vacant lots characteristic of the Amazon region. The Urban Planning Project for the city of Matupá was filed with INCRA in March 1984. The founding date of Matupá is considered to be September 19, 1984.
