After all the templates have been created and the first replacement panels have been formed, we move on to the front part of the fender. The front part is also divided into individual parts because the shape is very complex. In the first step, the pre-cut sheet metal is bent by hand to approximate its shape. By holding it against the basic shape, it is very easy to see where the sheet metal still needs to be reshaped. The goal is to pre-shape the sheet metal so that the basic shape is very close to the final shape. Now, using a round wooden hammer, the areas that will later be slightly curved are hammered onto a sandbag. The hammering is done in small steps and piece by piece to avoid excessive deformation of the sheet metal. During this hammering process, the sheet metal is stretched and thus deforms slightly. Therefore, the corners are pushed out slightly so that the sheet metal returns to its original shape. To drive the shape into the sheet metal more precisely, the sheet metal is driven into a hollow wooden mold with a plastic hammer. This depression in the wooden block has approximately the radius that the sheet metal should ultimately have. The sheet metal is repeatedly repositioned and checked with the tweezers to determine where further tweaking is needed. Using the tweezers, you can feel which areas were pre-formed too shallowly or too high.
