Learning the art of Batik in Bali with Bapak Widya
In this week's design episode, I travel to Ubud to meet with Bapak Widya, a batik artisan, to learn about why this particular fabric has such cultural importance in Indonesia. October 2nd was the Hari Batik Nasional, or the National Batik Day in Indonesia. I got to sit by Pak Widya's side as he worked on a masterpiece and taught me the art of Batik Tulis, or hand painted batik. Anyone can visit and study with Bapak Widya.
