Mid-Season Tomato Maintenance for Stronger Plants
Your tomato plants may be growing strong, flowering, and setting fruit, but mid-season care can make a big difference in how healthy and productive they stay through the rest of the season. In this video, I share three simple but important tomato care steps to take while you’re waiting for that fruit to ripen: removing diseased foliage, selectively pruning suckers, and securing branches that have escaped their cages or support system. I have found over the years that these small maintenance tasks make a huge difference. These three things can improve airflow, reduce disease pressure, help fruit mature properly, and prevent branches from getting pinched, damaged, or exposed to sunscald and pests. I also show you the tomatoes I planted only six weeks ago using @Soil3OrganicCompost VeggieMix composted soil as the only growing medium, with no supplemental fertilizer added since planting. With great soil, good sunlight, consistent watering, and a little proactive care, those plants are already producing the first tomatoes of the season. To my surprise, I already harvested TWO ripe tomatoes just 6 weeks from planting my seedlings. That's a record for me! In this video, you’ll learn: • How to remove diseased tomato foliage • Why I sanitize my snips between plants • When to remove tomato suckers and when to leave them • How pruning improves light and air circulation • Why escaped branches should be secured to the cage • How simple mid-season tomato care can lead to a healthier harvest Learn more about Soil3 Veggie Mix: https://soil3.com Follow joegardener® on: / joegardener / joegardenertv / joegardener Growing a Greener World @ggwtv My Online Gardening Academy™ on Teachable: https://organicgardeningacademy.com/ 📬 Subscribe to my email list for weekly organic gardening tips and podcast reminders in your inbox: https://joegardener.com/subscribe-joe...
