Famagogo reaches a monumental milestone as we drive from Panama City to the very end of the Pan-American Highway in Yaviza, Panama! 🌟 After a 10-month trek from Deadhorse, Alaska, we’ve arrived at the northern terminus of the Pan-Am and the gateway to the notorious Darien Gap—a region steeped in intrigue and challenge. 🗺️🚙 Join us as we cross the river on foot via a small suspension bridge for a glimpse into the roadless area of the Darien Gap, an area known for its lawlessness, smugglers, cartels, guerrilla groups, and a growing influx of migrants seeking a better life. Witness our journey to this raw and uncharted territory and see how this critical point in our adventure brings us closer to the edge of North America. On our way back, we explore a small, ordinary dirt road that leads us to a remarkable migrant camp deep within the jungle. Here, thousands of migrants who’ve crossed the Darien Gap are assisted with medical care and transportation towards civilization. This eye-opening visit raises more questions than it answers about the human stories behind the headlines. 🌿🏕️ But the journey doesn’t end here! Our next challenge involves shipping our Winnebago Revel 4x4 Sprinter van from Colón, Panama, to Cartagena, Colombia. This will be the most expensive leg dollar per mile we have ever traveled, and with everything we own in the van, the stress and risk of theft during transit are significant. We’ll be without our home on wheels for over a week, and the anxiety of not knowing its fate is palpable. 😰🚐 Stay tuned as we navigate this final leg and gear up for our South American adventure.
