The Reedy Creek Improvement District: A Deep Dive Into Disney's Private Government
In 1967, Florida State Legislature signed into effect the creation of the "Reedy Creek Improvement District". This is a special district with governing powers that allows Disney to do things like build a nuclear power facility, build an airport, and bypass many zoning laws. And this is what made building Walt Disney World, on top of a swamp, possible. But in the early 2020s, this all was put at risk. This is the story of the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
