Lecture recorded at ITMO 2026 _____________________________________________________________ Section: ELECTRODYNAMICS Topic: MAXWELL'S SYSTEM OF EQUATIONS Lecture: MAXWELL'S ELECTRODYNAMICS Question: ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES IN A CABLE Based on a developed apparatus for calculating linear AC circuits, it is shown that electromagnetic pulses of any doubly differentiable shape can propagate in an infinite coaxial cable with a phase velocity equal to the ratio of the speed of light in a vacuum to the roots of the product of the permittivity and magnetic permeability of the medium located between the current-carrying elements of the cable. It is noted that the obtained result is valid not only for coaxial cable, but also for any two-wire line whose dimensions and properties do not change with coordinates.
