Two John Lautner Masterpieces - A Traveling Exhibition This short documentary follows a travelling exhibition celebrating two remarkable works by the visionary American architect John Lautner: the Pearlman Mountain Cabin (1957) and the Walstrom Residence (1969). Featuring interviews with Christopher Carr of the John Lautner Foundation and architect A. Louis Wiehle, a former apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin and draftsman for Lautner himself, the film traces the exhibition’s journey through venues at Arcosanti designed/built by Paolo Soleri and Architekton studio in Arizona, where architecture students helped install and immerse themselves in the large-scale 1” = 1’-0" models. More than a record of an exhibition, the film becomes a meditation on architectural inheritance: how ideas are passed between generations through drawings, models, conversation, labour, and shared spaces. From the forest-bound intimacy of the Pearlman Cabin to the soaring timber geometry of the Walstrom Residence, Lautner’s work emerges not as static modernism, but as something alive and deeply responsive to landscape, light, and human movement.
