Trump brags about calling FIFA president to have World Cup red card reversed
President Donald Trump has confirmed that he personally urged FIFA President Gianni Infantino to review U.S. striker Folarin Balogun's World Cup red-card ban. Trump was asked at an Oval Office event Monday (6 June) to detail his call with Infantino, where he said that it was unfair for Fifa to take out one of the U.S.' best players. “Yes I asked for a review from Fifa,” Trump said, adding that he “didn’t think it was a foul. “I saw the play, I understand sports really well and that wasn’t a foul,” Trump added. “That wasn’t even an infraction. That was two guys running full speed that happened to run into each other.” The decision to reverse Balogun’s ban has been met with outrage amid concerns over Trump’s involvement in the review.
