Kostol Mena Panny Márie vo Veľkých Levároch. Baroková dominanta Záhoria

At the highest point of the village stands a church that has been writing history since 1397. It acquired its current monumental form in 1729–1733 thanks to Cardinal Žigmund Kolonič. The architect was Peter Damiani. The consecration took place on September 20, 1733, and since then, the Foundry Feast has been celebrated here every year on the Sunday after the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. ⛪️ WHAT IS THE CHURCH DISTINGUISHED FOR? 🔳 Baroque single-nave building: 44 × 16 m, nave height 23 m, two towers 46 m, capacity for approximately 3,000 worshippers. 🔳 Rich plastic facade with pilasters, statues of the Virgin Mary, St. Catherine and St. Barbara; inside Prussian vaults, triumphal arch, chapel niches. 🔳 The main altar of the Immaculate Conception with elements of the Louisés style (the most valuable of this type in Slovakia), side altars of St. Joseph, St. Anne, St. John of Nepomuk, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Matthew and Our Lady of the Rosary; numerous historical relics. 🔳 The organ with a historical case (18th century) has undergone several modifications; the tower clock has been registered since 1837. 🔳 Originally four bells in the towers; after requisitions in World War I, new ones were solemnly consecrated in 1921 (Our Lady, St. Stephen, Angel). 🔳 Two crypts (Koloničovci, Wenckheimovci) under the church; twelve consecration crosses on the walls commemorate the consecration. The church underwent a series of renovations (altars 1996–2000, facade 2001–2003, further work until 2009), thanks to which it shines again today as a spiritual and architectural dominant of Veľké Leváry.
