What makes a coloured pencil drawing look realistic is contrast, and a lot of people don't push it far enough. In this video, I show two versions of the same drawing: one done with accurate colours, and one with a noticeably blue hue. The difference in realism is much smaller than you'd expect, because the contrast is doing most of the work. I also talk about what I think is the most common reason drawings don't look quite right — stopping too early. A lot of beginners build up their colours to a certain point and then stop, before the darks are dark enough and the lights are light enough. I show what happens when you take that further, and why that final push makes such a difference to the finished result. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Materials List As an Amazon associate I make a small commission on purchases made through these links at no additional cost to you.
