Rato Machindranath Jatra, also known as Buṅga Dyaḥ Jātrā in the Newari language, is a chariot festival held in Lalitpur (Patan), Nepal. The festival is dedicated to Buṅga Dyaḥ, venerated as Karunamaya — meaning "the compassionate one" — an aspect of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, and is popularly believed to bring the monsoon rains. The name "Rato" simply means red, referring to the color of the deity's image.
