Ontario RAT-7 knife: Choppaholic!
Demo chopping and wood batoning of the excellent RAT-7 survival knife by Ontario Knives. There are some other good to great variations of the RAT like the ones offered by RAT Cutlery. However I prefer at least a 7" blade in this type of knife, for these types of tasks whenever possible. That's because a larger blade will hack, strip, and split wood more effectively and that type of work compromises most of my survival knife use. Tactical knives will have different considerations but even there, more reach is better reach. SAFETY NOTE: Using sharp and deadly tools in the wilderness can be dangerous. One missed swing and you could cut an artery up there. These videos will show imperative common sense safety measures to keep YOU safe from your own blades (and falling timber). Accidentally cutting YOURSELF is the biggest danger you will face in the woods.
