Objekt 17 / 5020 "gedeckter Rückzug" für den NVR der DDR und das Politbüro
Located in a wooded area was, or rather was located, Facility 17/5020, the courier, reporting, and distribution center of the National Defense Council (NVR). Covering a total area of 76 hectares, it included a helicopter landing pad with several protective structures, officially designated as the reporting and distribution center for Complex 5000. However, its proximity to the Wandlitz forest settlement suggests that the facility was primarily intended to secure the retreat of NVR and Politburo members in the event of an emergency. The above-ground structures were relatively spartan: two garage buildings, a waterworks, the guardhouse, the control tower, and the two barracks above the staff bunkers were the only above-ground structures of the facility. The western section contained five parking areas for helicopters and a short runway for small aircraft. Finally, the southern part of the facility included several splinter-proof shelters for vehicles and a wastewater treatment plant. Two wells supplied the facility with water. The site was only enclosed by a standard fence; only the proximity marker point was secured by a high-security security system. The total construction costs for the entire facility are estimated at around 22 million East German marks; it was handed over between 1984 and 1985. After German reunification, the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) initially used the site for training exercises, but due to budget cuts, the facility was soon abandoned. After the two large command bunkers (1 and 2) and the garage bunker (3) were converted into bat roosts and the rest of the site was left to decay, a demolition company arrived at the end of 2008. By now, most of the site's structures have likely disappeared. Disclaimer: The abandoned site shown in the video was entered by us (me) without any force and only when it was freely accessible.
